How BDS approaches it

The room should be an expression of the concept, not a separate decorative exercise. Materials, lighting, seating, movement, music, visual moments and even the way a guest approaches the bar all influence how a venue feels.

But a restaurant is also a demanding operating environment. Service routes, kitchen relationships, seating capacity, bar efficiency, storage and maintenance influence the everyday guest experience as much as aesthetics do.

That view comes from operating. Rish Saini has run hospitality businesses since founding Underdoggs in 2011, and lives with the decisions after they open.

We connect creative design with practical execution. Depending on the project, our involvement may extend from conceptual and interior design through technical coordination, contractor management and agreed turnkey delivery. Scope, specialist responsibilities, procurement and site supervision are defined for each engagement.

Redesigning an existing room

Not every project starts with an empty site. When a room is already trading, design begins with what is working and what is not, before anything is redrawn. That work is covered under restaurant renovation and repositioning.

Uptown Escape, Guwahati (concept to completion), Nuts & Brew, Guwahati (repositioning) and Ālaya Café & Bar, Shillong (concept to opening).

Uptown Escape needed one environment that felt approachable in daylight and warmer and more intimate after dark, without splitting into two identities. At Nuts & Brew, BDS modernised the interiors of an established microbrewery as part of its 2025 transformation.

The studio is based in Gurgaon and takes on restaurant, bar and café design across Delhi NCR, with selected projects elsewhere in India.
